New Potential Blue Flag Properties

Recently three new resorts have signed on board to begin their Blue Flag certification:

  • Travellers Beach Resort
  • Sea Splash Resort
  • Beaches Negril Resort

The resorts must meet 26 stringent criteria in four categories: Water Quality, Environmental Management, Environmental Education, and Safety & Services. The resorts must also have 26 water quality samples taken at least every fortnight. All the samples must meet the standards for excellent bathing water quality.

By committing to Blue Flag, the said resorts are showing their commitment to preserving and protecting Jamaica’s most valuable resources; the beaches, coastline, and sea. The resorts have until November 1st 2010 to meet all 26 criteria and provide all 26 water samples. If all of these are met, they will be awarded Blue Flag certification. Once they achieve certification, they will have to maintain the steps they took to meet the criteria because certification must be renewed annually.

If your hotel is interested in Blue Flag certification, please email NEPT at or call our office at +876-957-3736. You can also visit the Blue Flag International website at for more information about the program.
